SEX IS SPIRITUAL! IT’S HOLY.

The act of making love has become one of the most discussed subjects of modern times with the old generations pretending it did not exist while the new generations pretend that nothing else exists.

One reason why it’s critical for us to remember and cherish God’s purposes for sex especially in a world where unhealthy sex is depicted everywhere, the idea of healthy even holy sex gets lost in the rout.

Sexual act is a vital part of God’s plan for marriage- He wants you to enjoy and celebrate your spouse sexually, calls couples to be more than roommates, more than teammates, to be lovers caring each other’s bodies as God holds the patent.

Normal conception is that sex is for procreation but there’s a lot more to it than that. Sexual intimacy enriches marital union and God knowing that it was not good for man to be alone thus created woman to complement him as a partner. He chose to make it happen- take two to tango and got the process to be fun through ruffling of the bed sheet [Proverbs 5:18-29] He also gave us Song of Solomon: a book of the Bible dedicated completely to physical intimacy and pleasure between husband and wife. This shows that sexuality was not restricted to just procreation but for our pleasure and enjoyment as lovers.

God has the best plan for sexuality and secular world talks about sex all the time. So if the church refuses to talk about it, people will settle for distortions the world is selling. So intercourse is not something dirty or worldly, it’s worship, a form of devotion and it is sacred, the coming together of couple celebrating God’s gift of one another.

Sex is not all about two bodies being joined together but mating as God designed it is much, much more. It’s the merging of two souls on a profound level, uniting two people physically, emotionally and spiritually. Based on this, God created a secure context in which to experience this act, called marriage- God’s picture of healthy sexuality between a man and woman, married to each other for life.

Love making between couples is never a cause of shame, it should be honored, cherished and enjoyed as the gift God gave us- to have great sex with your spouse (Proverbs 5:19). God’s stance on sex in marriage is very glaring- he wants his children to enjoy this part of their lives (songs of Solomon 7:11-12) so joyous, do it, and enjoy the process.

Looking at the animal kingdom, you will notice that most of them only engage in sex when the female is fertile but unlike animals, married couples were created to enjoy sexual intimacy at any given time as they deem fit and helps to nurtures peace and security in marriages. The act of mating is a way of romancing one another, playing together or sharing a quiet moment. Engaging in it is far beyond physical connection, it’s the mingling of the spirits as it creates and maintains a bond for husbands and wives that’s soul-deep.

When people think of God and sex, “holy” is the furthest word from their minds and the church has not really helped as they perpetuated misconception by creating irrational taboos around sexuality including sex within marriage.

It  is true that God designed us as sexual begin- sex was his idea, design and plan for us and if done right under blessing, results in children though not ultimately restricted to that, it’s for the glory of God and the comfort of mankind.
